| The Eagles might have been the Cinderella story of 2011, but on Preliminary Final day, the Eagles alas turned back into pumpkins, well beaten by a Geelong side that was more determined, more skilled, and clearly a lot less tired on the day. The Eagles looked sluggish from the outset, with key players struggling to have an impact on the game, and the game plan itself - the hard tackling, high pressure game that got the Eagles into this game - was missing for much of the day.

| Bring on the Pussies! Twenty-six weeks ago, the Eagles started the season, reigning wooden spoon holders, favourites to repeat the dose, and even the most rabid fan was hoping for improvement; the concept that the Eagles might be still playing at this stage of the season, well it was laughable. That we'd be within sight of a Grand Final appearance was unthinkable.
