Spot on.

From anyone else and that would have sounded genuine, but I know better

Schwayne and whoever you quoted were correct. we get 6 rookies (plus davis) because we have 2 veterans outside the list.

The overall size of the rookie list has increased for next season from 6 to 8. So:
We can have 8 rookies, or
7 rookies plus 1 Veteran, or
6 rookies plus 2 Veterans.

(You can also have as many veterans as you want INSIDE the senior list total of 38.)
Either way, the total squad comes to 46.
(Plus NSW scholarship-players.)

Next year's rookie draft could be tough for us, as we could be chasing upto 6 new guys, in a field already pillaged by Gold Coast!
I actually think you are a bit harsh on Cockie Sico. Not a brilliant kick of the footy by any stretch but I certainly wouldn't say he is in the same bracket as Kerr and Priddis with his foot skills (Nicoski's foot skills are generally OK and can be great at times ... it is his decision making that lets him down). All the same I would take another Kerr or Priddis in a heartbeat. A guy that goes in hard, wins the footy more often then not and gets it forward in a hurry (an under-rated skill in my opinion) is a very valuable player.

Cockie finished right up in Subi's B&F (3rd I think?) a side that was chock full of stars, was sensational in the WAFL Grand Final particularly when Subi was in trouble in the first half and has spent some time with the Eagles before (actually played in the Eagles main intra-club match last year) - I would be wrapped if the Eagles rookied him.
We have enough bigger bodied slowish inside mids without penetrating kicks. Hence, I'm more no than yes for Cockie but definitely worth a look if we view him a much better prospect than other smaller forwards.
Just on Cockie I was suprised by his state screening 20 metre sprint time wasn't it 2.92 which is very quick.

I don't think Cockie would add anything to the squad. We've got plenty of midfielders now, especially considering the possibilities we have with Staker and Lynch.

Agree Nick. Cockie would be good value as a rookie because I think he could be a solid type at AFL level. However we are loaded for that type of player IMO. Perfect for Freo though.

I still think John Bennell is a lock for pick 18 maybe pick 2 if we are worried he would be gone by pick 18.

So we would probaly go for best available at pick 2.

Do you think theres any chance Deboer will still be there by pick 2, or will he get snapped up in the psd ?

I hear Melbourne will grab Sibsado with pick 1, if he gets a new manager.

I hear that the reason Richmond want to mature age Polak to get BC with a second pick in the PSD is that they want DeBoer with their first pick.

Is that because you don't rate them Sico, or because they're too similar to what we already have?

I'd probably prefer DeBoer to Cockie. From what I've seen of him, he's a ball-carrier, and draft camp results show he's got good pace. I know he's a very average kick, but we tend to favour running and handpassing so he could maybe fit into our style of play. I think we've got enough mids now though, it would really be unnecessary. It was also obvious last year how badly skill errors can hurt.

I dont know much about Ian Richardson, can someone describe him as a player? Is he the quick, Xfactor small crumbing forward we've been lacking?

In one word: no. Not a big crumber or have express pace.

But he does have x-factor and I think could be pretty handy for a rookie pick. Can play.
