2021 : Trade -:- Delist -:- Retire

Postby Mykidsdad on Wed Sep 08, 2021 1:40 pm

So that is four gone now - Vardy, Hutchings, Ah Chee and Venables.

Still a few uncontracted. It's going to be an interesting off season.

As mentioned earlier. Very soft calls. We need some hard calls made. We missed out on finals. It really is not good enough.

Really? I liked Cameron. Uncanny ability to kick goals, even if having a quiet game. With a few years more under his belt, he could have been anything.

I reckon there are other players that could go before him

There’s still a host of Eagles out of contract ahead of the 2022 season, including veterans Josh Kennedy and Shannon Hurn.

Also without a deal are Ben Johnson, Brayden Ainsworth, Jack Redden, Jamaine Jones, Jarrod Brander, Josh Rotham, Liam Duggan, Luke Foley and Xavier O’Neill.
7NEWS’ Ryan Daniels believes a one-year deal is already on the table for Redden, but at a “very significant pay cut”.

From Perthnow

I can't see the club going to the draft for more than 5 players. So unless someone is traded in, we have 3 spots and will possibly drop another 2 players.
Ben Johnson has had 3 years with no games for a small defender. He would be lucky to get a rookie spot. The rest played games this year. I really like Redden and he is likely to poll in the best and fairest. Ainsworth is likely gone

Gone are Vardy Hutch, AhChee, Venables and possibly Cameron by the sound of it. We are the 3rd oldest team in the AFL only behind Geelong and St Kilda

TRADE :
Not sure we'll keep Brander but I can't see the value he holds as a trade. Is he in our best 30 at the moment? I'd have to say yes. Reminds me a bit of Josh Schache from the Western Bulldogs. Is he going to mature later or fail? Personally if we could get a pick in the 30s for him I'd take it. Something along the lines of North Melbournes pick 38.

DELIST:
Will Collins - Can't see what he adds to the club as we already have a dearth of HBF's. Is behind Foley, Cole, Witherden, Duggan and even Johnson at this stage.

Ben Johnson - Is this guy the next Caleb Daniel? Has a great boot on him but needs to increase his tackle pressure (then again which eagle doesn't). Maybe another year on the list.

RETIRE:
Josh Kennedy - It's time. Great servant of the club but holding back our development of Oscar Allen. Averaging less than a goal per game this year.

That'd give us picks 10, 29, 35, 38, 49 and 65

I think JK averaged 2.2 goals per game this year which is pretty good. OA 1.3 goals

Both JK and Hurn are playing well enough to play on. However, maybe its time. After watching the pace of the winning preliminary final teams on the weekend and knowing that's where footy is going next year I can't see us going the well again next year with anything like the same game plan or team. Will those players be in our team when we next contend? In 2017 we made some harsh calls on retirements a great such as Priddis, yet the team reinvented and we won a Premiership the next year. (I think both players can still play in a premiership team; I just don't think it could be with us).

We also have 3 NGA prospects this year who we could take as Rookies.

Ethan Regan
HT: 191cm
WT: 82kg

West Coast prospect Ethan Regan had a breakout game and Subiaco premiership colt Matt Johnson showed why he’s rated so highly by AFL recruiters in the WA 19s versus 17s trial game at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday.

Regan, an East Perth colt who captained Trinity College last season, was one of the best players on ground with his overhead marking, running capacity and clean disposal by foot standing out. The 191cm talent of part of the Eagles’ Next Generation Academy, meaning the club has priority access to him in the draft is falls outside of the top-20 ‘protected zone’.

Lawson Humphries
HT: 182cm
WT: 79kg
Pos: Back Pocket

Back Pocket in WA Colts Team of the Year

An intercept-marking machine who has adjusted nicely to WAFL colts footy after graduating from PSA school Hale where he captained last year. Got one of the best left foots in the comp and great footy smarts, knowing where to position himself.

Richard Farmer
HT: 173cm
WT: 71kg
Pos: Fwd Pocket
Nephew of Jeff

PSA Team of The Year
A well-rounded player who provides X-factor, ball-winning ability and defensive pressure. Averages more than 20 disposals a game and regularly hits the scoreboard, capped off by a three-goal haul against Scotch in the final round.

Vardy
Venables
Hutchings
Ah Chee
Ainsworth
Johnson
Collins

Is that it?

How many of those are rookies? West counts as an in. That means six spots. 5 picks. Who are they planning on trading in?

Any news on Cameron, would make 8?

Rookie listed players; Venables, J Jones, Trew, Hutchings, Ah Chee, Collins & West.

If Cameron goes only 4 spots on main list, Brander goes makes 5. Looks like adding in west brings back to 4?

Pretty sure Cameron has retired. Or intends to have a year out of the game.
