Probably just wanted to make sure that he would get a spot in the team next year after returning from injury

Wow. Fancy admitting that he is leaving after a team mate tells him his opportunities could be limited. If I was Woosha I'd kick Nicoski's arse from here to .....!

...or Woosha put Nico up to it.

Told him to have a quite word to free a spot for a pick or something

It's a question of talent. Gaff showed quickly that he had more. This stuff about not getting opportunities is piffle. There were PLENTY of "opportunties" this season, due to injuries, brain farts, etc. Getting conched on the noggin early season probably didn't help him, but when he came back he was given a few quarters as the sub. In none of those did he make a signifigant impact. Fact is that if he stayed, he would get more such opportunties. Wellingham puts him a step back, but he'd nolonger compete with Swift (and possibly Stevenson and/or Strik.)
Embley's in for his last season, Kerr, Bunnings, Butler, and Priddis aren't far behind. There's a massive thread on the main board about how we need more oomph in the middle.

http://www.sportsnewsfirst.com.au/artic ... nto-draft/

Stevens is known to have attracted some early interest from Melbourne, where the Demons have been pro-active in attempts to bolster their playing stocks especially with the loss of hard-nut on-baller Brent Moloney.

It is understood West Coast management is insisting on at least a second round draft selection for Stevens, while Dogs list management officials are believed to be only willing to consider pick 51.

The Dogs have picks at 5, 6, 22, 44 and 51 still available for bargaining ahead of next month’s draft and the close of trading at 2pm (AEST) on Friday October 26.

Despite Stevens playing just 11 games in three seasons and only four this year, Eagles management is understood to retain high faith in Stevens emerging into a quality midfielder.

Perhaps we could lease him out for a year to the Dees or Dogs. Then he might understand what it's like to play in a shit side with little prospect of playing in a GF for a long time. He'll come back with open arms

Oh well, no point speculating what might have been had we given him more opportunities and had he shown a bit more endevour. I think considering what he cost us, we have lost out on that one.

Any idea what the "later" picks are?

44 seems reasonable

Will there be a huge difference between 44 and 51 though?
Do or do not!
There is no try.

In all likelihood the chances of drafting a star (or just good quality 100+ gamer) at 44 vs 51 is not much, but it's nice to pick who you want before 7 others options are off the table.

The later picks would probably be pick 61/62 for pick 71/89.
Can't see us trading away one of our 2 usable picks for Cripps.

44 isn't that great considering he was taken at pick 22 plus a few years of development
