Does NN's injury give McInness another year? I think he will never work as a forward, but I felt he was capable as a 2nd ruck.

I was always hopeful but, despite multiple shots at it, never translated good WAFL form to AFL.

Despite playing as a forward who rucked a bit, he only managed 1 goal in 8 games over the past 3 seasons. Even in his best ever year (2015) he only managed 6 goals in 7 games. A best effort of 2 goals in a 3 kick game is nothing to build your forward line around.
I think that his best game was probably the one against the Dogs in 2017 when he rucked a bit more and had a 15 HO, 11 possession game. Unfortunately followed it up with a badly beaten effort where he picked up a few meaningless back and fro handballs but didn't trouble the scorers and was thrashed in the ruck.

Unfortunately the stats tell the story of a good WAFL player who just doesn't do it AFL level.

2017 - 2 games, 8 kicks, 20 HO, score 0.0
2018 - 3 games, 15 kicks, 6 HO, score 1.3

I think he's a natural forward that has been asked to ruck. The ruck role has no doubt given him an opportunity to stay on the list, I can't help but think that, given a decent run as a forward he could make a career of it. He hasn't had sufficient continuity to grab the role and there is no forward vacancy for him.

I dunno, I've watched a few East Perth matches and his shots on goal never gave me much confidence and when he's had the chance at AFL level i get the same feeling I did watching Rowan Jones take a shot 10m out...

I think McInnes will just be one of those guys who plays well in the WAFL but can't convert it to AFL. Will benefit from his years on the Eagles list being able to dedicate his time to training and therefore have a bigger tank than most other WAFL players.

Not sure about jumping in before finding out who else is available. GWS have serious salary cap issues so Lobb could be available. Geelongs Zac Smith might be a possibility. Darcy Cameron from Swans could be homesick. Lots of possibilities from teams still in a finals campaign.

True, but will any of these guys want to play and travel from Perth. Some don't like the constant travel. Roughhead is in his prime age. I like it heaps.

Lobb would have to be the priority. He is a capable ruck and is an excellent marking option up forward. He is young with plenty of upside. Zac Smith is too big and slow when we need a mobile ruckman.

He is still in contract. GWS will drain us of all our picks before they do a deal.

How can they fit Selwood, Dangerfield, Hawkins, Ablett, Duncan, Bliclavs, Taylor and Stanley in the salary cap and yet we can't manage to keep Lycett etc.

The same way Collingwood can recruit Hoskin-Elliott, Adams, Treloar, Aish, Wells (All top end picks), and Howe, and Mayne (on $550k pa) while paying Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Grundy. All the while Buckley is trying to entice Tom Lynch from GC who would be commanding $900k+.
