Draft Guru 2019

Postby Streaker on Sun Nov 17, 2019 9:45 am

With only a week and a bit to go before draft day it's time to once again see how much of an expert we are when it comes to who we pick. This year will be a big challenge given we have our first pick in the 40s and the prospect of live trading. This year we will also add in who we think we would have got had our we not taken Kelly. Given that we all know we'll be upgrading Watson that won't be one of our guesses.

Actual 2019 Draft (so we need 3 names for this one)
1st Pick 40 something :
2nd Pick after all the passes 70 something

Coulda - Woulda - Shoulda pick 2019 Draft (who gets taken with these 4 picks for this one, even if the picks change hands etc)
1st Pick - 14
2nd Pick- 24
3rd Pick - 33
4th Pick - 62

My guesses.

Actual Draft:
Riley Garcia
Chad Warner
Jaxon Prior

Coulda - Woulda - Shoulda:

1st Pick - 14 - Cameron Taheny
2nd Pick- 24 - Jackson Mead
3rd Pick - 33 - Cooper Stephens
4th Pick - 62 - Callum Jamieson

Sorry Streaker, I'm out of the 'late pick, lucky lottery' guru. I couldn't even name a player who is likely to be at our first pick.

I'll have a stab at the numbers that we should have been picking at...

1st Pick - 14: Fischer McAsey
2nd Pick- 24: Elijah Taylor
3rd Pick - 33: Harrison Jones (if pick remains at scum, they need a key forward), Thomson Dow if it ends up with Sydney or Hawthorn (or Jones is gone)
4th Pick - 64: Callum Jamieson - because Streaker said so and I have no idea.

Always love this thread every year, as it is time to review some of the talent via highlights only.

Will report back

I think we may only use two of our four picks tomorrow. Perhaps we will have a senior list of 38 and six rookies (including Ah Chee, Brayshaw, Edwards...and three more)

Salary cap must be bursting at the seams.

Not as much research into this as I'd hoped:

Actual Draft:
Trent Rivers
Jai Jackson
Ben Kelly

Coulda - Woulda - Shoulda:

1st Pick - 14 - Jeremy Sharp
2nd Pick- 24 - Sam de Koning
3rd Pick - 33 - Thomson Dow
4th Pick - 62 - Ben Sokol

Dazz has 1 point with pick 14 being Bergman.

Certainly been some interesting early picks and surprised Robertson is still there. Maybe the other teams don't see him having much upside. Sharp and Rivers still available as well.

Whilst I'd love to accept that accolade, I can't.
Since we were supposed to tip on what were once our picks, our pick 14 became 16 with the bids on Green and Henry.

I will however claim a fraction of a point for tipping Geelong would take Stephens, they just jumped earlier than I thought.

Robertson still available means we could have had him.
But his sliding might make it easy for us to trade for him in a couple of years

Surprised a lot of the WA boys are still available, and Jackson at 3??? Really?

I think some decent local talent can slip to our picks.

We've done well with Lark medalists (Sheed, O.Allen spring to mind), so be great to get Robertson to us at some stage

Yes, looking more like Robertson will be more affordable to bring home at some stage in the future, can't wait. Or maybe he might even slip...

I wonder if the club has a feel for who will take who in the picks before our first at 47. Do we still have the Cats third round selection next year, which we can trade now? Package that with 47 might get us down a few picks to get him before some other club.

Whatever, it does look like some WA talent might slip to 47. Good'o.

I expect that Robertson will go in the 20s. Is Callum Jamieson worth a pick at 47?

Picked up Callum Jamieson at 47.

Ruck/forward. Watching highlights looks like there is something there.

Ben Johnson at 58.

Med defender with speed and a powerful long kick.

Ben Johnson lookslike a player, reminds me of a young bunger, composed and long kick but has more speed. :D
