Future Father Son picks

Postby The Boat on Fri May 18, 2007 2:43 pm

Hey mate,

You seem to have the best knowledge of young West Aussie Footballers, could you please alert all the EFH'ers as to who the potential Father/Son picks are in the next couple of drafts, with the current rules in mind.

Jacob Brennan is available this year isn't he? Is Josh Annear eligible?

John Annear played 58 games (need to play 100 games with West Coast) for us so we miss out there (I don't have figures but I doubt he played over 150 games with Claremont before he went to Richmond/Collingwood)

Tyson Keene has played one game for Subiaco Colts but Laurie only played 36 so we miss out again.

Jacob Brennan is the only one on the radar that I can think of, he can be picked up bottom age this year or we can wait till next year.

In the under age squads I can only see a Brandon Matera and Jordan Lockyer in the State Schoolboys squads, I don't know if they are sons of former players. Not sure if Brandon is Peter's son but if he is Wally's, which I kind of think he might be, we can't get him. Andrew Lockyer only played 78 games so we will miss out on Jordan if he is Andrew's son.

I have not heard of any ex WAFL players who have had kids we can get either. I know I have been told about a son that looks pretty good but I can't remember who it was, I know he was a couple of years away though.

Stud Farm

Okay, I suppose we can come clean now. We've been secretly running a Matera stud farm in Wagin for the past 15 years. Should have a steady stream of young fellas come through for the next 25 years, provided the old boy doesn't give out before then.

I might be testing your knowledge here Sico but do you know:

How many games Laurie played for Subiaco?
Is Subiaco alligned to us or Freo?
How many games did Laurie need to play for Subiaco for his son to qualify?

- Keene played 140 WAFL games. I'd assume all for Subi
- Subiaco are aligned to us
- 150, and they all would have had to have been played before 1987.

F/S eligibility through the WAFL ends for us after this year anyway.

I saw Tyson Keene this morning. Played back up ruck man for Subiaco, not really tall but still young (born February 1990). Not much I can say about his centre bounce work, umpire could not bounce it straight at all today. He did alright against two good ruckman though (Dawes is in the U18 squad and Tim Strong is a move than average Colts ruckman).

Peter Matera's son (Jordan IIRC?) is a little gun apparantly. I saw him playing little league at one of our home games last year, he stood out like you wouldnt believe. You could tell he was a Matera. Just a natural with the footy in his hands.

The new father-son rule is crap, considering that most interstate clubs are yet to gain full use of it.

Does Ashley Mcintosh have a son, just saw that his father John Mcintosh made it into the WA Team of the Century and his grandfather was also a gun country footballer who made it in the WAFL. Can we make it four generations at the top level?

Are the Holden boys from West Perth related to Craig Holden? What about C Holmes form Swans, is he related to Don Holmes?

Wally Matera has a son, Brendan Matera who has made the 15's state team and apparently to
what my mate said he was easily the best on show there...

Too bad he is Wally's son...
