All Eagles games season 2023

Postby Fair Bump Play On on Sat Mar 18, 2023 9:35 am

Just in case there is anyone out there I thought I'd start a thread for our games this year; before Q gives up on the site. As there will probably not be a lot of posters so I'm thinking maybe just using the one thread all year is a good idea?

Personally I'm excited about the year, I love a good rebuild, Eagles style. What I hate is being in denial as we have been for the last few of years.

Round 1 away against North. Marvel 10.30am
Four new exciting players in the team this week, love it!
Noah Long
Campbell Chesser
Jayden Hunt (ex Melbourne)
Reuben Ginbey

I can't watch the game live but I'll be looking forward to the replay later. Go Eagles!

Well on what I've seen so far, we're spoonbound. And Simpson will not see out the season.

I'm not sure where the team is at Jourgo. There was some beautiful ball movement in the first quarter and ofcourse the end of the third and all fourth quarter. The team looked good in part and I saw encouraging signs. Ginbey and Long looked great and some of our seniors looked good- Ryan was back closer to his elusive self. Shuey battled hard but looked sore towards the end. Gov, Hurn and Tommy B hung on in their down back when the midfield was getting smashed. Oscar and Darling did nice things up forward- need to work on set shots and Ozzy had that one brain fade when he missed from straight out.

That second quarter though and the start of the 3rd :(

We need so much more from Sheed and Kelly and Gaff than we are getting. Also we clearly need to get things sorted in the ruck- Bailey Bailey Bailey... you are a whipping boy at the moment! Bring in the kid from SA if Nicnat isn't available!

Wow, didn't this place get quiet :(

Agreed BB. It's the experienced players doing my head in at the moment, particularly in the midfield.

I am still confident things will work out and we'll get some wins on the board, starting with this week. Not sure what the pass mark would be for Simmo to be kept? 7, 8, 9 wins?

I agree mate, time to go, 25 out of 27 games is just not good enough, We are not taken seriously at home anymore. Teams don't fear us at all anmore in Perth.

I like what Macrae has doen at the Pies, can we get a coach to him? New ideas and possiblky a plan B at times when nothing is woirking in games. Long season ahead. :(

The biggest indictment on Simmo was the vision of Dom Sheed in the ruck. After North’s one recognised ruckman goes off with an ankle injury and Williams and Jamieson still can’t capitalise.

How we didn’t match the offer when Scotty Lycett wanted to go home (he was a restricted free agent at the time) just after the premiership and let Sinclair and Hickey go astounds me.

Nic Nat has already done his knees and who knows when he will return to the side this year.

The only thing that brought a smile to my face was watching Oz (apart from the missed dribble goal) and Ginbey.

Eagles v GWS

I've only just watched last weeks game, about to leave for today's against GWS. given the Freo result last night maybe we did OK? I was most impressed with Ginbey last week looking forward to seeing Elijah Hewett, assuming he gets a run today, not 100% sure on final teams. Hard to see the game plan last week, more thoughts on that after seeing a live game.

That was a brilliant response.

Jake Waterman had his best game to date.

For me, most of the credit for the faster ball movement goes to SPS and Jermaine who tirelessly presented themselves and ran all day.

Well done Eagles. We have a real chance to twist the knife next week and keep the Muppets winless if we continue to play like that.

SPS was solid, an important cog in the wheel, while Jones had a game high 18 kicks, in what looked to be his best game, or a least a defining one. Hard to tell how good we were against the Giants as for much of the day they were on the floor but our game plan of 'moving the ball forward' was refreshing! I can't remember a kick backwards or crabbing back and forth across the back half, if it happened the forward movement erased it from my memory. Game plan seemed to be kick forward, at lest to a contest. Probably a long way from matching it with the best exponents of this style, but its a good start.

Playing like this we must be a chance against the littler brothers next week.

I honestly was just happy to see the team play with dash, dare and flair. Take the game on. Sure, errors are going to be made, god knows how many kicks from Jones went to an opponent, but man how exciting it was to see some quick ball movement, manic pressure on the ball and desparation. What a difference some youth has in the team too, just the energy they bring. Not getting carried away, but it actually felt like the good old days at the stadium yesterday. Should be a fun year, if nothing else.

Like you I don't mind that Jones missed a few kicks, it was was new role for him and the style of game we have been calling for for the last few years. Kick it forward fast before the opposition set up. By the way I seem to remember the main tactic in the 70's was kick it forward...

Round 3 Western Derby 43 (Freo home game, once again Freo with an extra day break)

Eagles unchanged from last weeks winning team apart from possibly our sub, last week Elijah Hewett.
Dockers with a more rated team but playing the style of footy we played for the last few years. I can't see them turning it around if they haven't practiced during the the off season, it'll be interesting to see how well Freo are being coached. I'm tipping the Eagles over the little brothers; to my surprise.
