Locking a few players in.

In five year's time we will have a group of 32-34 year olds.

Anyway, I'm pleased Darling has re-signed. Awesome sauce.

Gaff, IIRC was something like 2 years with a 4 yr option?

Not sure what to think about these longer term deals.

I guess from a fan's pov, its all good. Beats the "will he? won't he oh fuck" every season .

I don't know how the dollars are structured, and I guess we never will, just have to assume they know what they're doing.
These are all guys of well above average ability, that we know will still be good, so its not a high risk strategy.

Williams has now signed a new deal to the end of 2022.

Very interested to see what he becomes.

Should be hitting his peak around 2026!

Just in time to go home to a Melbourne Club as a Free Agent.

Still, if we're lucky, we'll get one good season out of him, and people will think it a great deal.

Great news

Jetta still got plenty to offer.

Nelson coming along. Good to see he has worked his way back into the team. I thought he might be interested in a trade home.

Williams - looks a talent and a steal where we got him. I remember when we drafted him I looked at his highlights and thought he had something different.

Nelson - love him. We need a player like him in the team. He's tough and throws his body around. Can't have all "nice guys" in the midfield/backline.

Unless I missed it, anyone know what's happening with Masto and Schoey?

I'd be the first to say that Masto should be gone, but there has not been enough pressure from guys coming through in the past few years.
I'd hope and pray that we never need him next year (because we've signed Kelly and others are pushing for selection) but he would be good depth. Perhaps it will come down to who we sign, how many decent players we can draft, and how many spaces are left.

Schoey remains a unique player. With his ability to lock-down a KPF, but also generate rebounds and run off half-back.
I suspect between age and match-ups we'll see less of him, but I'd still keep him around.

They're both FAs, and whilst not high-priority targets, I hate the idea of them finishing up anywhere else.

Think Schoey will get a contract.

Rumours that Masten may be headed for Gold Coast. Of course that was Hardie that said them.

I think Masto will get one as well. Think we are holding cap space for Kelly.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-10-02/milestone-looms-for-veteran-eagle-with-oneyear-deal-imminent

WEST Coast backman Will Schofield and midfielder Brendon Ah Chee are set to remain in blue and gold in 2020.
AFL.com.au understands the pair are on track to sign one-year contract extensions, as the Eagles work through their list ahead of the Telstra AFL Trade Period.
Reliable defender Schofield is 10 games shy of chalking up 200 appearances, with Andrew Gaff (197) and Jack Darling (196) also closing in on the milestone only reached by 23 Eagles so far in club history.
Schofield, 30, played 14 games this year – including the Eagles' two finals - and was entrusted with some critical lockdown jobs on elite key forwards, freeing up intercept marking Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barrass.

I'm a little torn over Schofield.
I want to see him play on as an Eagle, I think our backline still looks better with him in it, and he provides great depth. I would hope to see him managed throughout the season, and play a part again in a finals campaign. Naturally I presume the club would ensure he gets to 200.
For a guy "written off" so many times, 200 games, as a champion, would be an awesome achievement, and hopefully he goes out on a high next year.
My only reservation would be whether he could get a better offer elsewhere? There are obviously teams that could really use him, and maybe he could get a 2 year offer with the possibility of a 3rd.
