But…. With only 1 of 3 senior players confirmed leaving the club, and we trade to get down to pick 46, a decision must be imminent on one player to either delisted or being pushed down to the rookie list.

I think Brander or Mutimer.... is that player, I think Brayshaw will be held on for longer for political reasons..

At the end of the day we must take 3 picks in the National Draft.
Since we currently have 39 players on the senior list, we must free up at least two more spots.

Our first pick we'll look to pick up a straggler. Somebody not too bad who nobody else fancied.

After that we have a choice: We use a ND pick to draft a new player, or use the ND pick to upgrade a Rookie, then take somebody in the Rookie Draft.
The advantage of using the picks to upgrade rookies is threefold:
1) a player subsequently taken in the rookie draft need only get a one year contract (unless that rule has changed?) vs 2 years for the ND
2) we can also simply pick up our own delisted player. Ah Chee and even Schofield would be candidates for that.
3) We don't have to fill all the rookie spots. We can hold spot(s) open for the supplemental period, and the mid-season draft.

Brander will not be that player. We took him with our highest pick as a long term KPF. He has done what was asked and should get more games this year. Not a candidate for either out or downgrade.
Brayshaw has shown potential and should be kept.
Mutimer could be the one of those you mention.

So far we have swapped Masten for Kelly on the main list. With our access to picks limited we could just be upgrading or throwing a couple of speculative picks at mature WAFL mids, hoping to find a TK or Pridda.

Schofield re-signed ... Francis Watson upgraded. Kelly in Masten out.

My calcs says we are now at maximum 40 players. A further 2 must be dropped to make the 3 draft requirements

The AFL website indicates that Ah CHee has a contract https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-10-17/ ... every-club, but could be a rookie contract?

Otherwise it is 2 from Murtimer, Brayshaw or Allen.

I get a bit confused by this...

Rookies can be upgraded by lodgement or by using a pick in the draft.
Interesting that we have already upgraded Watson.
So does that mean that he already counts as a Draft pick?
So we're down to needing only 2 spots for the Draft?

If so, does that mean we're not upgrading Edwards?

The official rules only say
At a National Draft Selection Meeting:
each Club shall exercise a minimum of 3 Draft selections

Agree he's safe but 2020 is really a crunch year from him. For a guy who looks so classy, and has such big props on him, his WAFL performance has been a bit underwhelming- it often looks like he's struggling to find the right position and he's now well behind Allen and Waterman in the pecking order.

Hopefully with McInnes going he will get to play consistently as a kpf

Watson is one pick, we have two left. 46 and whatever 91 becomes (probably 70 something).

No just a brain fart ... Meant Matthew Allen, Brander has a contract for 2020.

But, maybe 2020 contracts don't mean much any more.... especially now St Kilda is handing out pink slips. https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-10-18/ ... -by-saints

I never seen that happen before, also surprised that there was not much attention paid to either. .

We delisted Hansen with a year to run. Given St Kilda are reported to be in debt to the tune of $12 million, I wouldn’t have thought they’re in a position to be paying out contracts.

It's pretty rude, and I'm surprised they're allowed to do it.

Kids taken in the draft are supposed to be guaranteed two years.
Not one year and fuck off cos you're injured.

The West Coast Eagles have informed players Kurt Mutimer, Matthew Allen and Keegan Brooksby they will not be offered contracts for the 2020 season.
https://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/news ... st-changes

I can't find any news on Brayshaw, on whether he is being offered a Senior or Rookie List position....

Nor confirmation on Ah Chee accepting his 1 year deal.

Intiriguing..... but I missed the delisting of Ac CHee and Brayshaw and I assume the article is wrong about Watson as he was elevated to the Senior list.

The Eagles have already auditioned delisted Blue Jarrod Pickett, ex-Docker Brady Grey and state league footballers Nicolas Reid and Isaya McKenzie as part of the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP).

Jermaine Jones training with us now. I see Pickett is no longer at the club.

Wasn't jermaine Jones defeated by Spider-Man?

Pickett did his knee at training apparently. Super unlucky
