2018 Fixtures

Postby Pinion King on Tue Oct 31, 2017 9:06 am

Not a bad draw, have seen worse.

Trip to Tassie not ideal.
Hawks at Etihad is a bonus since we are terrified of them at the MCG.
The break before finals is handy after our GABBA trip.
Way too many Sunday games.

https://thewest.com.au/sport/west-coast ... b88645126z
The good:
Just one trip to Queensland, but they will trek to the Gabba in round 23 to take on Brisbane. Two MCG trips, one to Tasmania
The bad:
Five six-day breaks, potentially six depending on where they are fixtured in the final round.
The ugly:
A tough first three rounds and two trips to Sydney for the season with double ups against GWS, Sydney, Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide as well as the Dockers.

The round 14 Thursday match (why do we always get f***king Thursday games?) could be a real challenge to get to if any public transport issues haven't been solved.

We always seems to be playing the bulldogs twice lately

The draw is not that bad if we had a better team

Agree

Maybe we have so many sunday games because they are worried about the public transport ??

Also it seems a shame that we have the best stadium lighting and we will not have the opportunity to use it due to the sunday afternoon games

Na, that mob over east don't want to see how much better our stadium is compared to theirs. :D

We have been getting a fair few Sunday games the past few years. I think it is most likely due to the time slots and days we request our away games in and also our request for fewer 6 day breaks.

More interested in better playing conditions than prime time TV.

  love that!

I'm just happy we don't have a home game round 13. We ran out of time and had to use a Virgin credit so booked Melbourne that weekend hoping we might jag an Eagles game there, but it's in Sydney. We can fly up to Sydney for the game, I'm just glad we don't miss a home game.
Sunday games don't bother me but Thursday nights are stupid.

But, as long as we win, I really don't care.

Really interesting that we got the Thursday game there. We usually get it the week after a bye but we now get it 2 weeks after a bye. Not the worst way to have scheduled it, but would have preferred we go Bye, Thursday, Friday, Saturday than Bye, Friday, Thursday, Saturday. Would have eliminated 1 six day break and also got rid of a long break. Long breaks really aren't ideal as they can give too much rest, especially 2 weeks removed from a bye.

Last year we had a 5 day break before our Thursday game.

i casually skim bigfooty these days.

the general consensus on there:
- The draw appears to be easy
- most of the matches are winnable

one post stuck with me: "this would be an easy draw if we had/have a good team"

12 months on and i'm still not sure if we will slide drastically, improve slightly, or stay mid range.

If we draft WAFL mature agers, that would surely suggest we are playing for the here and now and not expecting a slide.

We get Sunday games because the bloody eagles tell the AFL that members want them. :(

Q, I agree in regards to the Bombers game. Why Thursday....

The WA Govt has asked the AFL not to schedule Weekday night games before July.

“We were really hopeful to have some Friday and more Saturday night fixtures but I think there’s some complications obviously with transport and a few other things early in the season so we need to ensure that we’re doing the best we can with this year,” Nisbett said.

“We would hope in the future that there’s going to be a lot of Friday night games in Perth and a lot of Saturday night games that complement the new Stadium.”

The bugger for us is that home Fri and Sat games are bad for eastern viewers and therefore bad for TV and therefore bad for the AFL. A game that finishes at 10pm is finishing at midnight, and no-one wants that.

I am somewhat confused about this draw. We have have supposedly picked up a bonus Perth game by getting a GCS home game in Perth. In a normal year we get 10 home games, 10 away games and 2 derbies (h/a) for 12 games at our home ground. In 2018 we get 10 home games, 10 away games and 2 derbies. i.e. exactly the same. So how is that being called an away game? Where have we lost the extra real home game? If we are playing an away game at home then we should end with 11@h, 9a and 2 x derby.

From afl.com.au... 'A total of 12 games at the venue, including an 'away' match against Gold Coast, is a boost for the Eagles' finals chances.'

Edit - just noticed that afl.com.au have it wrong. When you sort the fixtures by venue it is the Muppets 7Apr game against GCS that is the false home game. It is the muppets that get the 13 games in Perth and only 9 away.

We didn't get an away much. Freo did.

We normally get 11 home games + our away derby = 12 games at PS

WE SAY: The Eagles have lost plenty of experience from their list but 12 matches at Perth Stadium keep their finals chances alive. However, facing GWS, Port Adelaide and Sydney twice makes that task extremely tough, and if the Western Bulldogs bounce back to their 2016 form, making the top eight seems unlikely.
