Brownlow 2020

Postby Crazy Dazz on Wed Sep 23, 2020 11:16 am

Well its fast approaching that time of year again.
When the VFL once again shows what a modern and progressive organisation it is, by insisting all its straight players find a Model to drag along, so they can strut the red-carpet with their tits hanging out.
I wonder what format it will follow this year? There's been talk of a "Virtual" evening, so I guess they could save money by just using internet porn to spice it up.

And once again the whole football world will be forced to pretend that the award isn't a sad joke, as some of the best players fail to garner a vote.

So which of the umpires' favourites will get it down this year?
Given the lag factor we often see, this could be Neale's year.

Petracca will test the integrity of the system, since the votes should all have been in before the arse-grabbing came to light.

Then there is the umpire's perennial poster-boy Danger, and I also reckon Cripps will poll well in many of his games.

Neale's to lose. Should rack up enough votes early to allow us to all retire to bed 1/2 way through the broadcast.

I can see Danger, Martin and Bont getting a number of 2 and 1 votes they probably shouldn't. Can't see Cripps getting so many this year.

For me...

Neale,
Petracca,
Boak,
Danger

Be interesting to see if they still jitz all over Kelly, now that he's an Eagle.

If Neale doesn't piss it in, Fyfe will do a Judd back in 2010 and 2019 respectively.
Do or do not!

Neale was a deserving winner, but the result also demonstrates the bullshit.
Neale imho should have won last year, and was certainly deserving this year, but wasn't as dominant as the numbers suggest.
Then you've got Naitanui, polling less votes than even JK

Neale deserving.

But how the votes for WC played out in no way reflects performances.
Ryan - one vote. Get real.
Tim Kelly was solid but way off our best.
Good to see Sheed get some recognition, but again not our best over the year.
I expected NN to get a few more.

Fuck the Brownlow. Quite simply it should not be carrying anywhere near the importance that it does.

For me, the most significant indicator of the most valuable player of the year is the coaches association player of the year. Both coaches in every game vote for it, and both know who amongst their team did their job the best, and who for the opposition did the most damage. And for anybody watching the game objectively, there aren't many - if any - cases where the coaches get it wrong.

The 3,2,1 voting system is heavily flawed. It means that the person getting three votes performed three times better than the player with one vote. It's not going to change any time soon.

The AFLPA MVP is flawed also as it only considers the three players nominated by each club.

The AFLCA best player is probably the fairest system, but a system that rates each player out of 20 for each game would work depending on who is doing the rating.
