Discuss whatever you like, whenever you like, however you like

The missus is currently looking for work. Her employer went belly-up last year.
Job adverts and even interviews now days can' even hint at what might be considered any form of discrimination, nor anything that suggests any reliance on anything other clerical performance. But who are we kidding?
Some places are so PC now, they don't ask for a DOB in the application process. She only includes relevant roles since she returned to work, so it obvious several have assumed her to be much younger and invited her for an interview of that basis.
It doesn't help when job ads are full of so much guff, that its often not clear whether they want a CEO or a cleaner.
Instead of getting her hopes up that it is a challenging role which is fairly remunerated for someone of her skills and experience. Wouldn't it be better for everyone if they simply said "We want a young bimbo with big tits to brighten up our reception, and for the privilege of perving we'll pay $60k to do nothing more challenging than buy 3 kinds of milk for the coffee machine"? Or at least a polite version that conveyed the salient points. Such honestly would also protect young innocents from thinking there really were "opportunities for advancement."
And as a bonus, it would also lessen the chance that (as happened to us once) we employ a young person based on their "glowing references" and soon figure out that such lavish praise all originated in their boss's pants.
Then, when she read an ad saying "we don't care what yo look like, provided you can deal with all this shit, and be left alone to run the office without burning it to the ground" she'd know she was on a winner.
And whilst I'm on a rant, why is it that applying for even a basic government job now days, is a veritable quagmire of shit. Back in my day, you sat an exam, got ranked, and when a department needed a body you got a call. Now, to get a job as a basic admin job, you need to a file a 3-page document addressing all the required points. Bad enough, except the "required points" are just paragraphs of mindless drivel about complying with policies.

Govt jobs are about meeting the onerous essential position criterion which, is always more than the job requires. Its a culling process, but misses quality applicants because they shortlist those that are good on paper. References are a validation process. LBH when somebody asks for a reference, they're asking for a good one. The expectation is that you will provide a positive testimonial. They are rarely tested. Employers/Agencies select people who have provided positive referees. Many employers are too lazy to check out the applicant's peers in their current or former workplace. I worked in an area where I got to test referees through questioning etc. Rarely did they stand up. Unfortunately few test them.

As mentioned, back in the day when it was the done thing to have written references and provide them, we hired an admin person with glowing references who literally turned out to be a bimbo. She was obviously accustomed to jobs where she was mostly just for show, and felt she should be allowed to spend most of her time painting her nails, talking on the phone, or reading magazines. Even when she did "work" she was useless.

There has been practices where non-performing employees were provided with glowing references in order to improve their employment prospects and get rid of them

Ours is on something very close to that and we only a smallish professional firm down south. Funny bit is she meets all of Dazz's stereotype's. Young, blonde, can be an air head but is extremely good at her job. Here's my stereotyping....want to kill moral in a small firm? Have a receptionist or practice manager who has been doing it for 20-30 years. They know everything....

And just to clear, not only are most young females not bimbos, even thee attractive ones, but I reckon most bimbos are trained into it. domo_the_eagle wrote:60k for a receptionist....where do i apply for that cruisy position.
Then you'll love this. Worked for a fledgling explorer going through an IPO. The glorified receptionist was utterly clueless, but the two bosses drooled on their desk every-time she wiggled her arse. She was given a bunch of shares, which when the company was taken over two years later, netted her over $1M.
