Player Information |
|
A superb rebounding defender, Guy McKenna joined the Eagles at the 1987 draft to become one of the all time great Eagles players. His key role was as the attacking player out of the outstanding half-back trio of John Worsfold, Glen Jakovich and McKenna at West Coast through the 1990s, playing a large part in the Eagles premierships in 1992 and 1994.
On Worsfold's retirement, McKenna, then the vice-captain was promoted to club captain, but was only able to see out another two seasons, as injury took its toll and saw him bow out at the end of the 2001 season with a then club-record 267 games to his name. He later returned to the club as an assistant coach under Worsfold, but eventually moved eastward to an assistant's role at Collingwood under his former Eagles coach Mick Malthouse. In 2009, he gained the role of the inaugural coach of the Gold Coast Suns, coaching them initially in the Queensland league in 2010 then in the AFL when the club started playing AFL level in 2011. |
