A hard nut defensive small, Beau Waters was recruited to add a little bit of mongrel to the Eagles silk, and he has proven that that mongrel - and not a little bit of accompanying skill.
Waters took to AFL football like a duck to.... well you all know what. A solid debut against Essendon and a Rising Star nomination were good additions to his CV, but a run in with the dreaded ostetis pubis meant Waters was unable to play in 2005. He recovered to be the youngest member of the Eagles 2006 premiership team, but after playing most of 2007 he was one of the plethora of Eagles to miss swathes of 2008 when a string of injuries - and the odd suspension - saw Waters missing in action for most of the year.
Injuries tended to be the norm for Waters over the next few seasons, with the exception of an outstanding 2012 season. Unfortunately though Waters hurt his shoulder in a final, and while he played the odd game in 2013, he was continually needing repair. After not playing a game in 2014, Waters ultimately pulled the pin during the 2015 pre-season when it became apparent that he was unlikely to ever be injury free. Only managing 120 of a possible 259 games during his time at the club, Waters is a player who's injuries cut off what could have been a brilliant career. |
